Can You Save Videos from YouTube?
Yes. YouTube does not offer a free “save to device” button for most videos. YouTube Premium lets you watch offline inside the app, but that is not the same as owning an MP4 file. To save a video you can keep, share, or edit, copy the link and use a browser downloader like ClipSaver.
Only save content you own or have permission to download. ClipSaver is not affiliated with YouTube or Google.

Open YouTube Video DownloaderSave vs Download vs YouTube Premium Offline
People often say “save” when they mean keeping a video file on their device. YouTube Premium’s offline mode only stores videos inside the YouTube app — you cannot move them to Photos, share the file, or edit them. ClipSaver gives you an actual MP4 or MP3 you own.
ClipSaver vs YouTube Premium Offline
| Feature | YouTube Premium offline | ClipSaver save |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Paid monthly | Free |
| Real MP4 file on device | No | Yes |
| Works outside YouTube app | No | Yes |
| MP3 audio only | No | Yes |
| Share file with others | No | Yes |

Long Videos, Shorts, and Music
Regular YouTube videos
Copy the link from any public video — tutorials, vlogs, lectures, or clips. Pick the resolution that fits your storage needs; 720p is a good balance of quality and file size.
YouTube Shorts
Shorts use the same copy-link method. For vertical short-form content, you can also use our YouTube Shorts downloader.
Music and podcasts
Select MP3 instead of MP4 when you only want audio. This saves storage and works well for songs, interviews, or podcast episodes.
Tips When Saving YouTube Videos
- Use the full youtube.com or youtu.be URL from the Share menu.
- Public videos save reliably; private, unlisted-with-restriction, or members-only content may fail.
- On iPhone, move the MP4 from Files to Photos using Share → Save Video.
- On Android, find the file in Downloads and share to your gallery app.
